Mahabodhi
International Meditation Centre (MIMC)
Ven. Acharya
Buddharakhita, one of the most learned, celebrated and luminous
Buddhist monks of this age, established the Mahabodhi Society in
1956, which provided humanitarian and spiritual oriented services.
His great love and affection for the people of Ladakh and his
immeasurable vision, guidance and training given to Ven. Sanghasena
inspired the latter to found MIMC.
Many young men
and women in the Himalayan region of Ladakh grow up with few
opportunities in life. Like
most, Ven. Sanghasena grew up on a small farm with little schooling.
He joined the Indian Army at a young age but found his true
calling in the study and practice of the Buddha's teachings.
Since becoming a
monk, he has striven tirelessly to put the Buddha's teachings of
compassion into action through his humanitarian works scattered over
210 acres of desert-like land. He
has made meditation available to the common people. Ven. Sanghasena
is the current executive President of the Maha Bodhi Society in
Bangalore.
MIMC is a
non-sectarian, non-profit institution dedicated to inter-faith
harmony and understanding.
